ABOUT US

Helping individuals exceed their boundaries

HISTORY

Where we are today is a long way from where we started, but along the way were a few events that showed how ahead of the game Learner Profiler was and continues to be. The first grant for remote assessment (to  Dr Smythe, founder ) was to create a video system to watch and interact with the User. This was in 2001, five years before Skype launched! In 2010 we ran the Learner Profiler using CDs because the SA Internet could not handle more than 1 Meg downloads. In 2013 we were developing tablet software to run on Androd KitRat (V 4.4).

Our current team continue to innovate at a breath-taking pace. Our current offering, for example, allows students to register and see the Profiler on their phones and test for course readiness at institutions of Higher Learning. The screening happens off-campus and at remote locations such as home environments. Initially, many of our clients viewed our concept of remote screening of students with scepticism. The advent and pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic made many of these clients reconsider their initial views about remote access.

Today, it is hardly believable that thousands upon thousands of students using our Profiler system have been tested remotely, even in the most challenging environments. We have made a lot of improvements since then. Maybe too numerous to mention here. So, we would like to think that our development is well ahead of the game, technically, educationally and socially.

Although most of the work is currently in South Africa, we are already fielding questions from institutions and governments worldwide. Having overcome the diversity of challenges in Africa,  we are fit-for-purpose to roll out in almost any environment, adapting to any local conditions, including but not limited to the education curriculum and system.

With Learner Profiler, we are revolutionizing learning in South Africa by delivering innovative, evidence-based monitoring and evaluation of literacy and numeracy to the classroom, empowering conscientious educators and support workers.

By creating a low-cost and easy-to-use tool that offers guidance and support, we provide educators with crucial knowledge to improve classroom learning and help fulfil government and parent expectations without increasing their workload.

The Learner Profiler helps fill the gap between what educators know and what they need to know to maximize their teaching. The unique environment of South Africa, for example, where a multilingual environment and poor educator training combined with complex but improving technical infrastructure, has led to creating tools that identify needs at the student level and fulfil government requirements. Our experience and innovation developed over the years allow us to interact seamlessly with diverse settings.

The Learner Profiler is a computer-based literacy and numeracy evaluation system (and more), providing educators with a clear understanding of the underlying individual and groups weaknesses that inform classroom teaching.
