Our Competence
The genesis of the Learner Profiler can be traced to Dr Ian Smythe, the company founder of IBIS, an international development agency. Dr Smythe has researched cognitive difficulties which lead to failure in reading and writing among English, Portuguese, Hungarian, Welsh and Chinese students.
For example, Dr Smythe’s proof of concept work in the year 2000 on remote diagnosis using computers (including video monitoring, six years before Skype existed) led to a series of versions and additional research to ensure the current Profiler system meet local needs.
Over the last ten years, he has partnered with Gerald Williamson, a South African Clinical Psychologist and Carmen Joshua, an educator and the co-director of “Shaping the Learner”, an education support agency. For the past 25 years, they have worked in Basic and Higher Education. Mr Williamson and Ms Joshua’s solution-seeking work has been pivotal in driving change paradigms in South African educational environments. The Profiler system is undeniably a service underscored by passion and experience. Driven by an international team of equally passionate behind-the-scenes, competent individuals, the Profiler suite of tools is increasingly finding an invaluable place within educational institutions. If the system is applied correctly, the Profiler becomes a valuable part of a strategy that can change lives forever.
