The Secondary School Profiler is an online literacy and numeracy screener designed especially for high school students. It provides parents and teachers with a clear understanding of the underlying individual strengths and weaknesses that inform classroom and personal learning. The results allow parents, caregivers and teachers to screen for learning abilities. The high school student completes the age and learning level appropriate assessment to screen for early learning gaps and literacy and numeracy acquisition strengths.
Who is The Secondary School Profiler Aimed At?
The Secondary School Profiler can be used by students at the high school level regardless of age. Adults who are leaming literacy and numeracy at this level of schooling may also wish to do these assessments. The screener is also suited for those who want to learn English and want to see if they have mastered the basics or need further help.
How Does It Work?
The early detection of learning ability and gaps will allow you to notify your child’s school (if need be) and enable you to apply an appropriate support programme to make sure that the foundations of learning are solid. How Many Times Can I Use The Secondary School Profiler?
You can use the Secondary School Profiler as often as you want to ensure that targeted skills are being achieved. Please note that the license fee is applicable for testing one or more learners. The license period is from the date of activation for 6 months only. Once you have entered the child’s name, you cannot change it. If you would like to test them for a second time, you will need to enter their username and password again. If you have forgotten the details you will have to enter the management dashboard to reset the password.
Which Learning Areas Are Included?
The Secondary School Profiler helps you understand the main areas of your child’s literacy and numeracy abilities when they are transiting from learning to read to reading to learn.
Spelling: Besides a standardised local spelling test, the Secondary Profiler includes a module called “Guess the Spelling”. Students must use their foundational phonics and sound-letter correspondence to provide their “best guess” as to the correct spelling. This is highly indicative of any gaps in learning basic literacy skills.
Reading: By the time they reach Secondary School, most children have transitioned from learning the principles of reading to using the skill to acquire knowledge in diverse contexts. The Secondary Profiler uses three approaches. The first of which is identification at the single word level. In addition, there is a reading comprehension task as well as a “print awareness” task.
Vocabulary: Learner Profiler has developed a series of tests designed to help understand vocabulary skills in children of all ages, including multilingual communities. Since language plays an integral part in learning to read, it is essential to understand skills and abilities clearly; readers cannot comprehend what they are reading without knowing what most words mean.
Maths: The development of multiple maths competencies and knowing the best learning methods are essential, particularly for those planning to go forward into higher education. In Learner Profiler, we measure the ability and the extent to which those skills are learned through timed tests. Areas include Algebra, Geometry and Statistics.
Other: Keyboard, memory, visual reasoning and mental rotation skills are significant predictors for future academic success. In addition, study skills and the optimisation of learning is included and broken down into crucial areas.
Parent: The Secondary Profiler includes a brief questionnaire for parents to help identify potential learning influences (e.g. reading difficulties) which may have previously gone undetected.
